Research Tools: Summary

Finding A Book

Begin with using ALICE. Search for the book you’re looking for. Once you’ve located the correct book, write down its call number and floor number. Proceed to the floor in which the book is located. After you’ve reached the floor, you’ll notice many signs that indicate which books reside in each row. Using these signs, find the row that contains your book. Make your way down this row until you successfully locate your book. You’ll be able to do this by sifting through the call numbers on the spine of each book until you reach the correct call number. In order to check out the book, make your way to either the second floor or the fourth. There you’ll be able to rent the book so long as you remember to present your student ID to the librarian. Without your ID, checking out any book from the library is prohibited.

How To Get A Book From OhioLINK

If the book you’re in need of is currently out of stock when checking ALICE, it is still obtainable. The only catch is that there is a waiting period, typically three business days. Search OhioLINK for your book. A listing of places where the book is available will appear. Specify that you’re from Ohio, and that you are enrolled at the Ohio University. You’ll then have to log in with your student ID. Once you’ve done that, select a designated location for the book to be dropped off at. The transaction will be successful if you do all of the steps correctly. From there, enjoy the waiting period.

Finding Full Text From Citation

To locate a full text with only the citation, make note of the citation’s listed author, publication date and title of the article. Proceed to the library homepage. Click on ALICE. Change the search option to “Periodical Title” and type in the title of your article. You’ll then reach a screen that lists both the paper and its electronic resource. Click on the electronic resource. From there you’ll want to refer back to the article’s title and publication date. Select the article that has both parts of the criteria correct.
